FDA busts milk adulteration racket in Mumbai

In one of the biggest raids in recent times, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) officials busted milk adulteration racket at three different locations at Shivaji Nagar, Dahisar and Borivli on Friday, March 19.
According to reports, several hundred packets of milk were being split-open and replaced with water, after which the packets were resealed. The process was being repeated across the different areas simultaneously. H Pandya, one of the activists who helped the FDA team, said, “Packets were cut, about 20% milk was taken out and tap water was poured into the packets, which were then resealed. The milk removed is later sold in sachets by tea vendors.”
According to FDA joint commissioner for BMC (Brihanmumbai) region, Suhas Chaudhari, FDA assistant commissioner RC Runwal and Kishore Gore along with CD Rathod, AB Khule, lady inspectors SS Narwane and VV Rupanwar had specific information about milk adulteration being carried out in Poisar and Dahisar area of North Mumbai. “Our officials raided three places in Poisar, one in Kandivli and two places in Dahisar in the wee hours.
